Thoughtful, evidence-based psychotherapy

Therapy that helps you understand yourself—and create lasting change.

Life can become difficult in many ways: overwhelming emotions, anxiety, trauma, perfectionism, relationship struggles, or simply the sense that you are stuck. Therapy offers a place to understand what is happening and find a steadier way forward.

I work with individuals, couples, families, and groups, bringing warmth, curiosity, and advanced clinical training to each person’s unique needs.

01 / Approach

A way of working that is practical, personal, and deeply human.

Life is lived in the tension between emotion and reason.

Emotion

The engine

Emotion drives us forward. But when powerful feelings take over, the urges that follow can lead to impulsive or ineffective choices. We sail too fast to steer safely.

Reason

The direction

Reason gives us direction. But when planning, rumination, or control are used to avoid feeling, we lose momentum. Without drive, we become rudderless.

“I help clients balance emotion and reason—not as the end of therapy, but as the means to move toward what matters.”

I cannot promise smooth seas. No one can. My goal is to help you develop the clarity and skills to stay the course when life gets choppy.

02 / About

A life across cultures shapes how I listen.

A second portrait of Ting Mandel

I was born in the United Kingdom, raised in Taiwan, and later moved to the United States. Moving between cultures has shaped my understanding of identity, belonging, and the many ways people make meaning of their lives.

I provide therapy in both English and Mandarin. My style is active and collaborative: I listen closely, ask thoughtful questions, and help clients connect insight with practical change.

Frequently asked questions.

Clear answers about beginning therapy, treatment, payment, insurance, and appointments.

Who do you work with?

I work with adults, couples, families, and groups. My areas of focus include anxiety, trauma, difficulties managing emotions, perfectionism and overcontrol, impulsive behaviors, relationship concerns, parenting struggles, identity and life transitions, and LGBTQIA+ concerns.

What happens during the initial consultation?

The complimentary 15-minute consultation is an opportunity to briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, ask questions, and consider whether my experience and approach fit your needs.

What should I expect during the first session?

The first session focuses on understanding your current concerns, relevant history, strengths, and goals. You do not need to arrive with everything organized or know exactly what you want from therapy.

Do you take insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider. I provide documentation for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 48 hours’ notice are charged the full session fee.

Do you provide therapy in Mandarin?

Yes. I provide individual therapy and DBT skills training in both English and Mandarin.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Yes. Protecting your privacy is a fundamental part of therapy. There are limited legal and ethical exceptions, which we will review at the beginning of treatment.

What should I do in a mental-health emergency?

My practice does not provide emergency or crisis services. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a psychiatric emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. In the United States, you may also call or text 988.
